Lure your dog to lie down from sit.

To begin:

Start with dog in SIT. Don't say SIT, instead, lure or use hand signal.

Step 1

Your dog will:

See and sniff the treat, then it's eyes will look down and head will move closer to floor.

When you:

Hold a treat close to your dog's nose then slowly move the treat down to the floor. Stop treat between dogs front paws.

Step 2

Your dog will:

Keep it's rear on the ground and stretch it's front paws forward so the nose can keep sniffing the treat.

When you:

Move the treat from dogs paws along the ground, away from your dog. Move treat very slow.

Step 3

Your dog will:

Stretch out a bit and enjoy eating the treat.

When you:

See your dogs elbows touch the floor. Mark with your chosen marker word or sound. Open your hand or let go of treat so dog get the reward. Give treat while dog is in down position. Treat again, quickly to keep dog there.

Step 4

Your dog will:

Leave elbows on the floor while raising head to look forward.

When you:

Raise another treat to dogs natural nose level if looking forward. Your luring the dogs head up a bit and forward so they are no longer getting a treat from the ground.

Step 5

Your dog will:

Move from the down position.

When you:

Say your release word.
